INFO:
Chansa was an attacking midfielder or secondary who played also as centre-forward and winger. His career started at Nkana in the early 1980s. He transferred to Power Dynamos in 1984 and played there until 1993, winning the national league in 1984 and 1991, the first two in the club's history. He also won the Zambian Cup and Zambian Challenge Cup in 1990 as well as the African Cup Winners' Cup in 1991, all as captain. He transferred to South African team Dynamos F.C. in 1993. He tragically died the same year as one of the passengers who lost their lives in the airplane crash off the coast of Gabon. He capped for Zambia at least 22 times, scoring not less than 3 goals, taking part to the 1986 and 1990 African Cup of Nations in 1986 and the 1988 Olympics. He was named Zambian Football of the Year in 1988.
Starting his career as centre-forward, Chansa was instrumental in Zambia U20's success in the 1983 COSAFA Cup. Then signed by Power Dynamos, he led the attacking line, supported by the likes of Alex Chola and Peter Kaumba who provided plenty of goal-scoring opportunities that he promptly took. His outstanding 1984 season helped was a major reason in the team's first ever league win. He started to show his versatility when he transitioned into an attacking midfielder or secondary striker, becoming even more instrumental in his team as the new deeper-lying role consented him to be more influential. His natural leadership and tireless work rate were invaluable and key factor that gave great confidence to his teammates. His energy and dynamism were unmatched as he chased down every ball and held it until he glimpsed a teammate open up so that he could distributed the ball into wide areas before rushing forward. He was everywhere in the pitch and ever immaculate despite playing for 90 minutes, barely breaking a sweat. In addition, Chansa was also technically gifted with his quick turns and body balance. His qualities earned him a regular place in Zambia's team since 1986. He was crucial in a 1988 Olympics qualifying match against Ghana as he scored the second goal in a 2-0 home win while Ghana only won 1-0 in the second leg. Even more shocking was the 4-0 win over Italy at the tournament. Chansa was deployed on the wing during the competition, adapting himself and adding superiority to Zambia's midfield. He was once again a key player at the 1990 African Cup of Nations as he led his team to a final third place, Zambia's highest finish since 1982.
