Bodini was a goalkeeper. Grown up at Atalanta, he played three seasons on loan at Cremonese from 1974 to 1977 before playing two with the Neroazzurri. He transferred to Juventus in 1979 and Bodini thought the would've become the first choice goalkeeper because Dino Zoff was 38 and about to retire. However Zoff retired when he was 41 years old and then he was replaced by Stefano Tacconi. Because Bodini was the reserve of two great goalkeepers, he was nicknamed "the ultimate n° 12". He played 45 matches for Juventus until he left in 1989. He then played for Hellas Verona and Inter, retiring from professional football in 1991.
Bodini was a tall but thin class goalkeeper, quick, reactive, capable at saving low shots and effective in 1-on-1 situations. He never made mistakes on easy balls but had troubles on high long range shots. Anyway, he was very reliable, never spectacular and his performances usually were so great that many didn't even notice the difference between him and the regular goalkeeper he had to replace.
