Wolgang Kraus was a player who could occupy almost all positions in the midfield but was mostly used as a central midfielder. Fine passer of the ball, where his short passing was slightly better than long, nice technique and was known for his hunched run and great close dribble. Even though it was said he was a terrier like footballer, he would throw a tackle or two here and there occasionally. However, Kraus would go on unnecessary runs through the whole opposition eventually losing the ball. Also, it happened that a decent amount of his short passes were wrong, despite mostly having good vision & ideas. Kraus was a player with very good stamina. All in all, he was the main holding midfielder in Bayern in these years, playing alongside Breitner.
He was a German champion with FC Bayern Munich (1980, 1981), DFB Cup winner in 1974, 1975 with Eintracht Frankfurt, and in 1982, 1984 with FC Bayern Munich, as well as a European Cup finalist in 1982.
Kraus played ten international matches for the amateur national team, first on 6 December 1972 in Hertogenbosch in the 2-1 defeat against the Netherlands, and the last time on 26 February 1975 in Mannheim in the 2-0 defeat against France. He was used in the B national team on 5 and 12 June 1977: 4–1 and 3–1 victories over the U.S.A. (in Chicago) and Honduras (in Tegucigalpa) respectively.
