Simović was the last great keeper in Yugoslavia and the best in 80's, combining lot of impossible saves and some big errors. He became famous for saving penalty kicks and frequent (sometimes unnecessary) runs from the goal line. Keeper noted for his long and precise drop kicks. Zoran Simović played poorly in the beginning with Galatasaray and even played in the reserve squad for a few games. He enjoyed Istanbul's night life, but after his family transferred there, he calmed down. Simović was one of the most successful goalkeepers in the Turkish leagues during his years with Galatasaray. He was making incredible saves, especially in situations where he was face to face with opposing forwards. Apart from that, he liked to take on the role of a libero in defense. At Napredak team in 2nd division he scored once a goal from free kick against Lovćen. He played for Napredak Kruševac during the 1970s, helping them gain promotion to the Yugoslav First League on two occasions (1975–76 and 1977–78). In 1980, Simović was transferred to Hajduk Split. He helped the club win the Yugoslav Cup in the 1983–84 season. In 1984, Simović moved abroad to Turkey and signed with Galatasaray. He spent six seasons at the club and won four trophies, including back-to-back national championships (1986–87 and 1987–88). In total, Simović made 192 league appearances and scored once for Galatasaray, converting a penalty kick in a 6–0 home win over Kahramanmaraşspor in April 1989. |
