Very effective striker with impressive positioning and opportunism inside the box but also gifted technically and great shooting technique. Scored some great overhead and volley goals, good free kick taker and very explosive on the short distance. Despite the short size he scored a lot goals with his head, he didn't have particularly high leap but his heading technique and precision was excellent. Tanju first played in Samsun Yolspor, where he was top scorer of the Turkish league was second in the 1983/84 season and in the season 1984 / 85th The following year he moved to the first league to Samsunspor. There he was in the years 1985/86 and 1986/87 twice top scorer of the Turkish league. In 1987 he joined Galatasaray, where he scored in his first year 39 league goals and was honored by UEFA for the Golden Boot. This was before any other Turkish football player. His involvement contributed significantly to that Galatasaray made international attention for season 1988 / 89th The club also managed to reason Tanjus important goals with AS Monaco and against Neuchatel Xamax to the semifinals of the European Champions' Cup (now Champions League). During his time at Galatasaray, he was in the 1990/91 season with 31 goals scorer again. In the following season he moved to arch rivals Fenerbahce, where he 27 goals the last time top scorer in the season 1992/93. His last position was as a football player in the 1993/94 season Istanbulspor, where he was still active for four months before he ended his career. In addition to his individual success he was once with Galatasaray Turkish soccer champions. For the Turkish national team, he played 31 games, scoring nine international goals. He is currently with 247 goals in 296 games is the second top scorer of the Turkish league (now Superliga). With an average of 0.87 goals per game, he has the best odds of all Turkish footballer. In the 1992/93 season shot Tanju Colak 6 goals in a game (Fenerbahçe - Karşıyaka 7:1) and is the player with the most goals in one game. He also maintains near Samsun at the time third largest cattle farm in Turkey. He is a deputy candidate from the Islamic rooted The Justice and Development Party (Turkish: Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi, AKP) of Turkish Parliament elections which will be held in June 12th, 2011.
