Panjali is a former centre back who could be deployed as left back. He spent most of his career at Persepolis, where he played from 1977 to 1987 and from 1989 to his retirement in 1994. He previously played for other Iranian clubs and between his two stints at Persepolis, he had a two-year experience in Qatar at Al-Gharafa. He capped for Iran in 45 occasions. He was captain for both Persepolis and Iran national team.
Considered one of the greatest in his position in Iran football history, Panjali initially was deployed mainly as left back but was turned into a centre back and became one of the best covering defenders in the country. He was reliable, calm, good in the air and strong even though he didn't have a notably big physique. Moreover, other than being efficient in the defence, he possessed the ability to set up the game. He was highly consistent as major mistakes by him are hardly remembered. In fact, Iran national team looked for many years for a valid successor with similar characteristics.
