INFO:
Matteoli is a formner defensive or central midfielder. He played for Como during the 1970s and 1980s, with several loans to other teams. In 1985-86 he had a season at Sampdoria before joining Inter. He had with the Nerazzurri his best time, playing 166 games, scoring 8 goals, winning the 1988-89 Serie A. His career was brilliant even at Cagliari, where he transferred in 1990, making 146 appearances, scoring 7 times, leading the team to qualify for 1993-94 UEFA Cup. He retired in 1995 after a season at Perugia. He held for five years the record for the fastest Serie A goal when he scored against Cesena after only 9 seconds in 1988. He was called up for Italy in 6 occasions.
Matteoli was a excellent playmaker. He was fair, dynamic, not too fast but gifted with great tactical awareness and technical abilities. Accurate with both feet as well as the outside and first time touches, he was an exceptional passer and could set up the play very well. In fact, despite having started his career as attacking midfielder, at Inter he became highly efficient in front of the defence thanks to his speed of thought and ideal abilities to trigger the offense. Also, he liked pushing forward when he could to try a long range shot. When he was on loan at Reggiana, he was nicknamed "Maradona of the poor" because he was part of a small team but his touch of the ball was considered not far from that of Maradona. During his time at Cagliari he proved to be an able penalty taker.
