INFO:

Carsten Nielsen was former Danish footballer. Initially a striker, he played mainly in midfield though. Versatile player, he could defend, attack and run. Nielsen was known for his surging dribblings from midfield with good acceleration, although he wasn't particularly agile and fast. He was strong and mobile, with intelligent and well-times runs in the box. Solid as playmaker of the team with useful passing range and skillful footwork. He could also be used as striker due to his instinct for goal and solid shot, he was especially skillful in performing volleys. Nielsen arrived in 1976 to replace his compatriot Henning Jensen who had moved to Real Madrid. In his first season, he only played 13 minutes. In his second season, he made his breakthrough – not as a striker, as planned, but as a control center in midfield. Nielsen played outstandingly on October 20, 1979 in the derby at 1. FC Köln. The "Effzee" led 3:0, but driven by Nielsen, Borussia turned the game around, he set up two goals, he scored the 4:3 himself. Cologne then equalized and Nielsen bemoaned the opponent's tough play. In 1981 he switched to Racing Strasbourg. Reason: “I want to get out of the Bundesliga. It's too hard for me." Nielsen collected 108 games and 23 goals Bundesliga for Borussia. During his five years at the German champions Borussia he was once (1977) and one UEFA Cup winner (1979). After that he played in France, in Switzerland (Neuchatel Xamax, he met with his former Borussia player Uli Stielike again) and his native Denmark.
