INFO:Tireless part of famous HSV side from late 70's / early 80's who played on all defensive positions. As can be seen in his nicknames, Jurgen Groh was most known for his stamina. He had solid ball control, used for good man marking skills and performed good passes but never scored a lot of goals. His athletic career began as a child with his hometown club Starkenburgia Heppenheim. At 18, he moved to the VFR Bürstadt, with whom he celebrated the 1975 title of the German amateur champion. His professional career began in 1976 at the 1 FC Kaiserslautern. In 1980 he moved to Hamburger SV. Here he was a fixture in the game system of coach Ernst Happel. With HSV, he was twice German Champion in 1982 reached the final of the UEFA Cup, which his team lost against IFK Gothenburg won the 1983 and the final of the European Champions Cup against Juventus Turin. 1985 Groh moved for six months in Turkey, where he became the first German player for Trabzonspor. Then he returned to Germany and joined the 1st turn FC Kaiserslautern. There he played until 1989 before he ended his professional career and finish his career at SV Edenkoben left. In total Jurgen Groh came to 351 Bundesliga appearances (197 for 1 FC Kaiserslautern and 154 for Hamburger SV), in which he scored seven goals. Groh completed two A, nine B-caps and 14 games for the Olympic team selection. His first A-match, he played on 26 May 1979 against Iceland. Germany won 3-1 and Groh made his debut in the starting XI. This test match was for four years but his last international game. Through his solid performances at Hamburg, he offered himself again to Germany coach Jupp Derwall and so he came on 7 September 1983 against Hungary for his second and last "A" match. The game ended 1-1 and the goals scored Tibor Nyilasi (42nd minute) and Rudi Voller (66 minutes). Jürgen Groh worked as a postman after his career in his native Heppenheim in Landstuhl (Pfalz). Early in his professional career he worked as a postman.
