Frontzeck is former German player and now a coach. He played on the left side in defence and midfield, main qualities were his great crosses, strength, solid ball control and shot, although he was weaker in defensive duties. Frontzeck was a student at the high school Oden in Mönchengladbach and began his football career at SpVg 05/07 Oden. He played from 1982 to 2000 as a left-back in the Bundesliga for Borussia Moenchengladbach (1982-1989, 1995/96 and 1998/99), VfB Stuttgart, VfL Bochum and SC Freiburg and completed 436 Bundesliga games with this terms, in which he scored 37 goals. The greatest success of his career was the German League title in the 1991/92 season with VfB Stuttgart. Frontzeck was also in the seasons 95/96 and 96/97 in England at Manchester City under contract and played in the 1st and 2 English Premier League. In the national team he collected between 1984-1992 19 appearances and was with the team at the European Football Championship 1992 in Sweden, European vice-champion. Frontzeck started as assistant coach of Borussia Mönchengladbach from 2000 to 2003 and for Hannover 96 from 2004 to 2005. He was manager of Alemannia Aachen from 2006 until the end of the season 2006/07 when he resigned due to the club's relegation. In January 2008, he was named manager of Arminia Bielefeld and took over for interim manager Detlev Dammeier after the winter break. Eventually, it was announced that his contract was extended until 2010 but on 17 May 2009, Frontzeck was fired. On 3 June 2009, Borussia Mönchengladbach announced Frontzeck's return to the team as new head coach. He signed a two year-contract until 30 June 2011.
