INFOGeorgi Georgiev Dimitrov (14 January 1959 – 8 May 2021) was a Bulgarian professional footballer who played as a centre-back. Arguably the greatest ever Bulgarian defender. Tall and strong, great in tackling and positioning, with good attacking play for a defender (technique, passing, dribbling). He even scored some important goals, real captain on the pitch. Born on January 14, 1959 in the village Gredachevo. Played as the central defender, played in clubs Beroe (1975-1977), CSKA (246 appearances for the period 1977 to 1986), St Etienne (1986-1988), Slavia (1989-1990), Maccabi Tel Aviv and Linköping (Sweden). In group "A" has 283 matches and 32 goals. Five times champion of Bulgaria - 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1989. Winner of the Cup of Bulgaria 1981, 1983, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1989. Winner of the Soviet Army Cup for 1985, 1986, 1989. Winner of the Super Cup of Bulgaria - 1989. Player number 1 in Bulgaria for 1985. In the national team has 77 matches and 7 goals, as in 56 was his captain. His debut was on November 29, 1978 against Northern Ireland at 0:2 in Sofia. He was coach of Velbuzhd (Levski Kyustendil), Miner (PC) Velbuzhd (Slokoshtitsa) and Marek. His brother Dinko Dimitrov was also a CSKA football player.
