Eike Immel is former German keeper. He was solid long lasting keeper, good in positioning and quick reacting but pretty "weak" mentally due to his "off-field" activities which even prevented him of making better career. Immel debuted in 1978 as a 17-year-old in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund's 1-0 victory against FC Bayern Munich. The 1.87 meter tall goalkeeper moved in 1986 from Borussia Dortmund, where he had played 247 Bundesliga games, as the then number three in the German national team to VfB Stuttgart. In 1992, he celebrated by winning the German championship his greatest success. In the 95/96 season was his coach Rolf Fringer surprisingly prefered the young keeper Marc Ziegler. Eike Immel therefore decided to leave the VfB and moved to the Premier League to Manchester City. Eike Immel stood in the league a total of 534 times and it is number seven on the list of record-player of the Bundesliga, 287 games of which he played for VfB Stuttgart. Of the goalkeepers Oliver Kahn only played more league games. He is the league goalkeeper with the most goals conceded: 829. Immel occupies with 147 games without conceding a goal the third place behind Oliver Kahn and Oliver Reck. Immel was youth team player and in 1982 Under-21 European Vice Champion. At his debut in the A-national team on 11 October 1980 against the Netherlands in Eindhoven (1:1), he was at 19 the youngest up to that German international goalkeeper. He was at the European Championships in 1980 and 1988 and the World Cups in 1982 and 1986 in the German squad, but only in 1988 as No. 1. To 1988 Immel played in total of 19 games for the German national team, but retired after a dispute with coach Franz Beckenbauer, as he gave the preference in the first qualifying match for FIFA World Cup 1990 against Finland the young Bodo Illgner. His coaching career began at Württemberg Association division club Kickers Heilbronn, which was promoted in 1999 as runner-up behind the SpVgg Au / Iller in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg. In March 2001, he moved to Turkey, initially to Besiktas, where he worked (as in the following stations) under Christoph Daum as a goalkeeper coach. After his resignation in May 2002, he moved in October 2002 to FK Austria Vienna, before he worked between July 2003 and December 2005, at the Turkish champion Fenerbahce. Since then, however, was diagnosed with avascular necrosis, he can no longer pursue his career as a goalkeeper coach. His disease is in addition to his (once) extravagant lifestyle and a cause for the financial difficulties in which Immel felt in 2007
