Brady was a midfielder, able to act as playmaker, on the flank or in the center. He spent the majority of his professional career at Arsenal from 1973 to 1980, playing 307 matches and scoring 59 goals. He then transferred to Juventus, where he had two good seasons and scoring 15 times in 76 games. He left the Bianconeri due to the arrival of Michel Platini. He then played for Sampdoria, Inter, Ascoli and West Ham United, before retiring in 1990. He gained 72 caps for Ireland, scoring 9 goals.
A talented offensive midfielder and playmaker, Brady is regarded as one of the best ever Irish players. The one who drove the entire team, he had great efficiency in the attack thanks to his excellent technique, close controll of the ball and dribbling ability, superb quality passing and vision of the game. He was left-footed but could use well both feet, even though he was seen using his main one almost all the times. His passes usually weren't very fast but incredibly accurate. He could give the ball great effect, mainly to his excellent ability to use the outside of the foot, characteristic that he showed also with outstanding powerful long range shots. He wasn't too quick, even though he had good acceleration, but his lack of dynamicity was offset by the aforementioned qualities. He probably suffered of low consistency but during a single match rather than throughout a whole season. In fact, he sometimes disappeared from the play or was less effective than usual but he could make some magic in any moment of the game. In addition, he was a reliable penalty taker, having scored dozens of penalties throughout his career.
