INFO:

Legendary Swedish defender. The tall central defender Glenn Hysen is considered one of the best defenders in Europe in 80's. His strengths lie in his tough tackles, his skills in organizing the defense, which he has acquired through his extensive experience, and, above all, his offensive strength. The giant, who is strong in the air, can be found in the opponent's penalty area in almost all standard situations. He was usually defensive minded because his partner in defence Peter Larsson was very ofensive. But he has shown also good skills on ball and especially good passing range when he did go forward. His main quality was certainly his aerial play, he was practically unbeatable in the air with great leap, height and strength. Hysén began his career in 1978 with IFK Gothenburg. Under the guidance of coach Sven-Goran Eriksson he was a regular in the defense and in 1981 became the first appointed to the Swedish national team. In the 1-2 home defeat against the Danish national selection on the 15th May of the year for the first time he touched on the national jersey. The following year, he experienced another career highlight, as the man triumphed in the UEFA Cup 1981/82 the finals against the favored Hamburger SV. He was also champion in the same year in the Allsvenskan. He was well known beyond the national boundaries and the Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven bought him in 1983. That same year he received the first Guldbollen. After two years in the Netherlands came back to Sweden to IFK Gothenburg. Gunder Bengtsson coach, 1982 Eriksson's assistant, led the club in the European Champions Cup 1985/86 to the semifinals where the team was eliminated on penalties against Barcelona. A year later allowed Hysén stretch a second time in his career in the UEFA Cup in the air. In the finals of the UEFA Cup 1986/87, the team continued to captain Hysén by the Scottish representatives from Dundee United. Hysén then followed a renewed call from abroad and signed a contract with Fiorentina in Serie A. In 1988 he succeeded his former teammate Stig Fredriksson as captain of the Swedish national team and was in the same year for the second time sweden football player of the year. In qualifying for the World Cup 1990, the Swedish selection came to England. With an outstanding performance in the game at Wembley Stadium, which ended in a 0-0 draw, he caught the attention of English clubs in the summer of 1989 and moved to Liverpool. Shortly after his arrival in England was Hysén celebrate his first title on the island when the team triumphed in the Community Shield. At the end of the season he was with the English club national championship. At the World Cup tournament Hysén experienced a disappointment as captain when his team after three games without a point had to return home. He then came back after 68 international matches from the national team. Although the tournament was following the tracks in the Community Shield, which was divided after a 1-1 draw against Manchester United, are almost defended it, however, continued a slow downward trend in Hysén, and Graeme Souness sorted out the defender so that parted ways in 1992 club and players. Hysén went back to Sweden in 1992 and signed a contract with GAIS. With the club he grew up at the end of the season in 1992 from the Allsvenskan in 1994 and finished his professional career. Then he let the lower division Skogens IF and ended his career.
