He ended his season in the historic meeting in Cordoba, against Talleres on the January 25, 1978 when Independent was champion playing with 8 men. He was transferred to Seville, Spain, and later triumphed in Italy. He was world champion with Argentina in 1978 and is one of those who contributed enormously to ratify the nickname Red Devils who holds the club, by the diabolical skill of his attackers throughout history. Before leaving,
Bertoni won with the red shirt (the only club in Argentina) a national championship (1977), three Copa Libertadores, Intercontinental and three Inter-American. Thanks to his performance in the "Red", was cited for the selection of Argentina led by César Luis Menotti. The most important was the winning of the World Cup in Argentina 1978, where he scored a goal in the final against Holland.
