His career started in 1979 at Lecce where he played 123 matches in four seasons, scoring 9 goals. He transferred to Como in 1983 and remained for four years, including three in Serie A, making 134 appearances and scoring 2 goals. His next team was Juventus, playing here from 1987 to 1990 for a total 99 games and 1 goal. He then played for Torino from 1990 to 1993, playing 106 matches and scoring 1 goal. He retired in 1998 following short experiences with Fiorentina, Lecce, Heart of Midlothian and Wigan Athletic. A good and strong defender, Bruno started at Lecce as side-back, primarily on the left. He was still deployed as side-back at Como, hardly on the right, but started off as defensive midfielder in front of a three-men defense. Bruno was an expert in man marking but was mostly known for his hard, often violent and untimely tackles that earned him several sanctions. Many strikers feared him. He proved himself capable of neutralising the likes of van Basten, Giordano and Francis among others. But the defender wasn't only interested in stopping the opposing strikers. He himself liked to join the forward line, showing great pace down the side, decent crossing ability, great jump and more than solid heading, a powerful and usually accurate long range shot. Once, he even scored with a lob from a long distance as he took advantage of Avellino goalkeeper Di Leo being far from his goal. QUOTES: Spoiler: show |
