Thomas Dooley is retired German footballer who represented USA on the national level. He was sweeper or midfielder, and striker in the early years of his career. Dooley is one of the model professionals in German football. The defensive player is strong in tackles and headers, always reliable, very versatile and therefore valuable in almost all positions. The "all-round defender with a nose for goal" (Frankfurter Rundschau) is passionate about his club and gives his all in every game. In the Bundesliga he played for FC 08 Homburg, 1 FC Kaiserslautern, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Schalke 04 199 games and scored 20 goals. He also played in Major League Soccer for Columbus Crew and together with Lothar Matthaus in the NY / NJ MetroStars. With Kaiserslautern, he was 1990 German Cup winner and 1991 German champion. After the World Cup 1994, he joined Bayer Leverkusen and with FC Schalke to which he was transferred a year later, he won the 1997 UEFA Cup. He later took on the U.S. citizenship and could thus participate in the World Cup tournaments in 1994 and 1998. His career finally ended in Major League Soccer for Columbus Crew. Since 2005 he is the owner of the football club "Orange County Kings" in Laguna Niguel, California.
