INFO:
Dossena was a central, attacking or side midfielder. He spent most of his career at Torino, playing 245 matches and scoring 30 goals from 1981 to 1987. He then transferred to Sampdoria, where he played 165 games and scored 16 goals until 1991. With the Blucerchiati he won Italian Cup, Cup Winner's Cup, Scudetto and Italian Supercup. He played also for Pistoiese, Cesena, Bologna, Udinese and Perugia, where he retired in 1992. He gained 38 caps for Italy, scoring once and winning the 1982 FIFA World Cup, even though he didn't play any match.
Dossena was an excellent playmaker, who drove his team and orchestrated the play. He was gifted with good speed, superb passing ability, great technique and dribbling, could use well both feet. Both his short and long passes were equally fast and very accurate. He was also effective at recovering and winning balls. He wasn't just an assist-man but he liked to push forward without the ball and wait to receive it mainly inside the box. In fact, he possessed a great first time touch, a shot with decent power, a remarkable leap and very good heading ability. He also helped the defence even in his own box when needed.
When he joined Sampdoria, it looked like he was at the end of his career. Instead, he found new life with the Blucerchiati. He acted in less offensive positions, initially side back then mainly side or central midfielder and occasionally even as sweeper. He lost some speed but his technique and passing ability were still excellent. Moreover, he became scorer of incredible and powerful goals from difficult positions. What impressed the most though was the fact that despite his age, he played on average 52 matches per season in his three years at Sampdoria, which is more than he did at Torino even considering his caps for Italy. In Serie A especially he didn't miss a single match.
