Ferroni was a right back who could play equally effectively on the left side. After a beginning of his professional career at Lucchese in 1974, he joined Sampdoria one year later. He played 268 matches and scored 5 goals for the Blucerchiati from 1975 to 1983. His only Serie A goal came with this team, in the first match of the 1982-83 season against Juventus. In 1983 he joined Hellas Verona, where he played 150 games and won the 1984-85 Serie A. He retired in 1988.
Ferroni was a short but very tough defender who didn't fear 1-on-1 duels. The most dangerous opponent was usually assigned to him and he build his performance around the task of marking that player constantly throughout the whole length of the match. He had determination, tactical intelligence and most importantly a combination of good speed and remarkable interception ability thanks to which he could close the space near the attacker and anticipate him. Despite his grit and firm tackles, he moved with elegance and coordination. He very rarely went past the midfield. In fact, he scored only once in Serie A (as aforementioned).
