Pari is a former defensive midfielder, occasionally used as sweeper or centre back. He grew up at Inter ─ that bought him from Serie D team Bellaria ─ but played only one game in 1980-81. He spent the majority of his career at Sampdoria, playing 401 matches and scoring 14 goals from 1983 to 1992, winning three Italian Cups, the 1989-90 Cup Winners' Cup, the 1990-91 Scudetto and the 1991 Italian Supercup. He was called up for Italy in 1991 but didn't appear in any match. He played also for Parma, Napoli, Piacenza, Spal and Modena, retiring in 2000.
A player of great form and consistency, Pari was always present and took part on average in 50 matches per season in his last four years at Sampdoria, being a key player during Sampdoria's golden era. Very effective and careful in defence and at anticipating the opponents, his main tasks were covering the spaces and marking the opposing playmaker. He couldn't challenge them in terms of technique but he offset the gap with his outstanding stamina and determination. He possessed decent speed and passing ability either with long balls from the back or with short ones in the rare occasions where he moved near the opposing box.
