Salsano was an attacking midfielder of great tactical versatility. In fact, he played also in the centre, in front of the defence and on the wings either in midfield or attack. He spent most of his career at Sampdoria, where he played 377 matches and scored 25 goals in two spells, from 1984 to 1990 and from 1993 to 1998. In the middle he had a three year experience at Roma. He played also for Empoli, Parma and Spezia. He retired in 2000.
Salsano was a very short player, mainly focused on the attack. He possessed decent speed, mainly on acceleration, and good agility. He combined excellent technique, dribbling and creativity with teamwork and good passing ability. He didn't score too much, preferring to act as assist-man. Most of his goals though, were very remarkable, mostly thunderous shots with either the right foot, the left or the outside. He may have suffered problems of condition throughout his career because, despite his performances being always good and the fact he easily took part in over 40 games per season in his first spell at Sampdoria, around half of those matches were half or a small part of them.
