Dario Bonetti is a former centre back, capable of playing also as sweeper and defensive midfielder. He ha his best time at Roma, where he made 131 appearances from 1980 to 1986 ─ excluding the loan to Sampdoria in the 1982-83 season ─ scoring 4 goals. He played also for Brescia, Milan, Hellas Verona, Juventus, and Spal, where he retired in 1993. He capped twice for Italy in 1986.
Bonetti was a tall and strong defender, gifted with good defensive qualities as well as decent technique that made him capable of setting up the play from the back. Excellent in the air, he took advantage of this characteristic to try scoring with headers during set pieces. He often left his own area keeping the ball and he sometimes showed a good shooting ability. However, he was incredibly slow and struggled to come back to his defensive role, sometimes troubling his own team. Moreover, his lack of speed affected also his covering ability and his movements to the side. Last but not least, he wasn't too consistent and didn't have a very good temperament.
