Gerolin is a former central midfielder capable of playing also as side back, defensive and side midfielder. He spent the majority of his career at Udinese and Roma. He played for the Friulani from 1980 to 1985, making 143 appearances and scoring 19 goals. He then played 195 matches for the Giallorossi from 1985 to 1991, scoring 9 times. He played also for Conegliano and Bologna, where he retired in 1993.
Gerolin was a very good player, gifted with great speed especially when he a lot of space in front of him. His running ability was even more highlighted when he acted as side back. Effective in the attack but less in the defence, he surged forward at any given opportunity whenever he had enough space especially during counterattacks. He possessed fine passing ability, decent heading, remarkable technique and a good shot on both feet.
