INFOGerardo Miranda Concepción is a former Spanish footballer. Gerardo crossed the wing as a promising winger, although thanks to his prodigious physical conditions he was able to adapt to the centre of the field to work as an inside midfielder and help in defensive tasks. He was fast, powerful and physically a beast. He liked to join the attack and dominated the aerial game and he also adapted to the sweeper position. He started as a left winger, and that it was Miguel Muñoz who put him on as a full-back. He wasn’t a very skilful player, but he did have a lot of experience and a lot of work capacity. Reliable player but because of injuries he never achieved more in his career. He was good in marking but sometimes used to make big mistakes in defence. Gerardo Miranda Concepción (1956) was born in Nouakchott (Mauritania), but lived in Gran Canaria as a child. He trained at Ciudad Alta and San Bernardo before moving to the youth team of UD Las Palmas. He made his debut in the yellow first team at the age of 20, as a winger. The following year, Miguel Muñoz turned him into an excellent defender who, after five seasons in Las Palmas, would go to FC Barcelona to play seven seasons and win all the titles... except the European Cup. After leaving the Blaugrana team, he returned to Las Palmas, in the Second Division, where he had two excellent seasons. Gerardo played nine times for the Spanish national football team (5 wins, two draws and two losses), making his debut against Portugal in Porto (Portugal 2 - Spain 0) on June 20, 1981 and playing for the last time in the Spain 2 - Iceland 1 match in Seville on September 25, 1985.
