Gordon Cowans is rated by many as one of the top 3 Aston Villa players ever. He was an all-round player who helped in defence and started attacks. He had great vision and passing, especially on long range. As central midfielder with good ball control and free kicks, he played for Aston Villa in three spells, gathering 453 games in which he scored 49 goals. He was voted Young Player of the Year in 1979/80. His career suffered downfall in 1983 as he broke his leg and missed the whole season. Still, he stands as one of the all-time Aston Villa favourites as 1982 European Cup Champion.
