Borrows was a right back. He spent most of his career in Coventry City, playing 477 matches and scored over 10 goals from 1985 to 1997. He played also for Everton, Bolton Wanderers, Bristol City, Swindon Town and retired in 1999. He never capped for England and many Coventry City supporters believe that he would've been England regular right back if he played in a big team or in a different era.
Borrows was gifted with excellent space awareness and close ball control. He was also a good piece taker. Not exactly a defensive full-back, he possessed great cross and burst of speed. However he played a key defensive role during the historical 1986-87 FA Cup run.
