Sacchetti is a former central, attacking and defensive midfielder. He had his best time at Fiorentina - 116 matches and 6 goals from 1976 to 1982 − and Hellas Verona − 148 games and 10 goals between 1982 and 1986 plus the 1987-88 season. If it wasn't for a bad injury that took him out for many matches between 1983 and 1985, he would've played way more, especially during the Serie A title winning season. He played also for Brescia, Catanzaro and Alessandria, where he retired in 1990.
A talanted, consistent and very versatile player, Sacchetti balanced well attack and defence. However the fact that he could play well in more positions was probably also the reason why he never managed to show his full potential in a specific role. When he acted as playmaker, he was helpful thanks to his skills, tactical intelligence and good long passes from the back. However he could also use nice tricks, using well both feet and the outside, add himself in the attacking plays or deliver powerful long rangers: one especially remembered came from 30 metres against Crvena Zvezda during the 1983-84 UEFA Cup. When he acted in a more defensive role, he covered well the area and stopped the attacking opponents.
