Paolo Benetti was a centre back. An Ascoli legend, he spent most of his career with this club, playing 202 and scoring 12 goals from 1987 to 1995. He grew up at Milan and played for several other clubs: Fano, Catanzaro, Siena, Venezia, Triestina and Carpi. He retired in 1999.
Benetti was a tough defender and very firm man marker. The task of stopping the centre forward was usually assigned to him. Reactive, very strong in the aerial game and gifted with an alright technique, he liked to join the attack, especially during corners and free kicks.
