Benedetti was a central midfielder who could play also as enforcer defensive midfielder or even more back as sweeper. He spent most of his career at Lecce where he played 172 matches and scored 13 goals from 1988 to 1993. He also had great seasons at Avellino where he scored 12 goals in 86 games from 1985 to 1988. He played also for Lucchese, Pistoiese, Napoli, Genoa and Pisa. He retired in 1997.
Benedetti was a modern and clever player who could defend and attack. He was gifted with reaction, good technique and was an able dribbler. His best characteristics were great headers and powerful long range shots while his specialty was the overhead kick. He could jump well, use the first touch, be dangerous with volleys and deliver decent short passes.
