Corneliusson is a former centre-forward. His career started in 1978 at Göteborg where he played until 1983, scoring 56 goals in 101 matches. He then spent the 1983-84 season at Stuttgart where he scored 13 goals in 35 games. He transferred to Italy, signing for Como where he played from 1984 to 1989, making 133 appearances and scoring 21 goals. He retired in 1995 following experiences at Wettingen in Switzerland, Malmö, Qviding and Karlstad in Sweden. He represented Sweden 22 times, scoring 12 goals.
Corneliusson was a very good striker, although not too prolific outside of Sweden. His tight control wasn't always optimal but he could defend the ball thanks to his physique, good dribbling skill, solid pace and excellent short sprint. He wasn't selfish as he often provided short passes to his teammates or moved to the flank to cross the ball in several. Sometimes, he would do that after taking the ball from an opponent close to his area or even in midfield. He possessed great instinct inside the box, a shot with good power, a remarkable first-time touch, and a combination of accurate heading ability and a fine jump.
