Rebonato was a centre forward. He had his best time at Pescara, where he's considered a legend thanks to his 1986-87 Serie B season that ended with him becoming the top scorer with 21 goals and the team reaching the Serie A promotion. He scored a total of 35 goals in 93 matches with the Delfini. His great performance during the 1986-87 season convinced Fiorentina to buy him but unfortunately this was the downfall for Rebonato who retired in 1993 after spells at Catanzaro, Mantova and Treviso. He played also for Hellas Verona, Cremonese and Campobasso.
Gifted with a strong physique and good acceleration, Rebonato had a playstyle based on resisting to the marking of the defender before making the final sprint inside the box and score. Incredibly constant during his time at Pescara, he could easily score with either with first time touches or in 1-on-1 situations. Mostly with the left, from that foot came 16 of the 21 goals in 1986-87 − some with good power − while 4 were right-footed and only 1 was a header.
