Pagano was a right winger or right side midfielder. One of the best players in the history of Pescara, he played for the Delfini from 1985 to 1990 and in 1991-92, scoring 31 goals in 201 matches. He played also for Alessandria, Udinese, Perugia, Ancona and other minor clubs.
A very fast player, Pagano acted mostly large in the field, running like a thunderbolt down the side. He was an able passer and had a good shot but wasn't too prolific, especially in Serie A. When the ball was on his feet, he used to make a specific move most of the times: a diabolical feint followed by a turn, faking to go to the side and instead going inside towards the centre using the right foot, sometimes receiving a faul and gaining a penalty. He was nicknamed Garrincha di Pescara due to his skills the made the defenders go crazy. Very dangerous during counterattacks, he was hard to stop, even for a legend like Paolo Maldini who said about Pagano: << he was the hardest player to mark who I ever faced >>. Unsurprisingly several bigger clubs tried to buy him but he always decided not to leave Pescara.
