Been is a former attacking midfielder and central midfielder. His career started in 1982 at Feyenoord where he spent most of his seasons, six, playing 137 matches and scoring 53 goals. He capped for the Netherlands once in 1984. After leaving Feyenoord, he signed for Pisa where he had two good seasons, making 74 appearances and scoring 11 goals. He retired in 1995 after experiences with Roda, Heerenveen, Wacker Innsbruck and Excelsior.
Considered an incredible talent since young age, Been probably didn't live up to the expectations despite having had a good career. He was a quick and skillful player, gifted with good dribbling ability. He was an able free kick and penalty taker as well as a threat from the distance thanks to accurate long range shots. He was also a good passer who showed unselfishness especially at Pisa, where he had a way lower scoring rate than he had at Feyenoord. Been scored some remarkable goals with Pisa, like some curled and powerful long range free kicks.
