INFO:Spink is a former goalkeeper. He spent most of his career at Aston Villa, playing 460 games from 1977 to 1996, winning the 1981-82 European Cup, the 1983 European Super Cup and the 1994 English Football League Cup. Considered one of the best English goalkeepers at the time, he unfortunately capped for England only once mainly due to the competition with Peter Shilton. Spink played also for West Bromwich Albion, Millwall and Forest Green Rovers, retiring in 2001. Spink is remembered by Aston Villa fans not only for his long spell at the club but also for having replaced Jimmy Rimmer in the 1982 European Cup final, helping Aston Villa win the trophy thanks to many remarkable saves.
Spink was a tall and strong goalkeeper, reactive, gifted with determination and agility despite his imposing size. He very often moved out of the goal and was good at covering it. His goal kicks were powerful and accurate, often going past the midfield and reaching a teammate. He preferred making short passes using the hand rather than the foot.
