Piagnerelli was a goalkeeper. His career began in 1974. He played for many clubs: Fano, Vicenza, Cesena, Pescara, Palermo, Messina, Foggia, Riccione and Ancona. He had the chance to play 2 Serie A matches with Vicenza in 1977-78 and 13 with Pescara in 1979-80. He retired in 1991.
Piagnerelli was a good goalkeeper. He was reliable in Serie B and, in fact, he played all league matches in 1978-79 and 1980-81. However he proved that he could do his job in Serie A as well. He had good leap and reaction between the posts. He liked to stay out of the goal, still showing nice reflexes but also weaknesses he could be beaten easily with low shots or ones from the outside the box.
