INFO:Andrzej Zygmunt is former Polish defender. He was long time regular player for Legia Warszawa as central defender but he could also be used as the left full back. During his 11 years at Legia, he proved to be a great central defender. He was not a master of technique, but he made up for this deficiency with extraordinary ambition and combativeness. These traits and his great tenacity in play meant that some perceived him as one of the most brutal defenders on our pitches. This was not entirely true. True, he played hard, but always fair to his opponents. He was a master of short marking. Extremely hard-playing defender, the ball could have passed him, but the opponent never. Secure under pressure, trying to trap the ball and pass to the closest teammate rather than kicking it out of bounds. He was a master of short coverage. As a rule, he was assigned the role of "plaster" for the most effective strikers of the teams that had to compete with Legia. His duels with Włodzimierz Lubański became legendary in Legia's matches with Górnik Zabrze. Zygmunt was able to neutralize this outstanding striker like few others. He did not limit his game to receiving the ball. He played very well with his head and took an active part in actions in the opponents' penalty area during set pieces. Andrzej began his career in his native village. Player of the Legia was in 1964 and the club where he spent 10 years (in the league in his debut season, 1965/1966). During this period was twice national champion (1969, 1970), won the Polish Cup (1966, 1973). He also played for Polonia Warsaw. For the Polish national team Andrzey has played only once, on 22 September 1971, when Poland won 5-1 against Turkey in a qualifier for the European Championship in 1972.
