McAlle was a consistent centre back and he's a Wolverhampton Wanderers legend who spent almost his entire career in the club, playing over 500 matches from 1967 to 1981. However he never capped for England. After short spells at Sheffield United and Derby County, he retired in 1984.
McAlle wasn't gifted with a very strong physique and was more effective at anticipating rather than man-marking. He had very good reaction and decent speed, was a good header and tackler, being able to push away the ball or rake it from the forward. He could cover very well and always stayed in the back. In fact he never scored a goal while playing for Wolverhampton.
