Guidetti is a former defensive midfielder ─ he played on the left side or as playmaker from the back in his early career. He had his best time at Como from 1974 to 1977, Vicenza between 1977 and 1979, Napoli from 1979 to 1982. He played 87 matches and scored 8 goals for the Lariani, 57 matches and 11 goals for Lanerossi, 94 and 10 for the Partenopei. He played also for Verbania, Piacenza, Solbiatese, Hellas Verona, Ancona and Pro Vercelli, retiring in 1986.
Guidetti was a dynamic midfielder of quality and quantity. His main task was to cover his zone and acting as playmaker from the back with accurate long balls but he was also an enforcer thanks to his good and powerful left-footed volleys and long range shots. He was considered one of the most technical gifted Vicenza's players at the time due to his ability to deliver the ball exactly where he wanted − even though he personally said in an interview that everyone in the team was able to pass the ball to someone like Paolo Rossi. Also, he used to take free kicks but he always took them second-time because he preferred shooting the ball after a short run. Despite his short size, he had decent strength and could hit the ball with the head.
