Paul Wilson was one of many talented players to come out of Celtic's academy in the early 70s. While he didn't reach the heights of other academy graduates at the time like Dalglish, McGrain, Hay, Connelly or Macari, he was a talented player in his own right. He also has a unique place in history as the only non-white player to play for Scotland in the entire 20th century, being of Indian descent. Wilson was mainly a winger, usually on the left, but capable of playing all across the front line and he hit his peak in the 74/75 season mostly playing as a second striker. He was a very quick, agile and skilful player, easily capable of beating defenders with the ball at his feet. He also had a good shot, scoring some very nice goals over the years. He was also acclaimed for his performances in important matches such as cup finals and Old Firm games, in the 74/75 season he managed to score in all 4 cup finals Celtic played in. On the other hand he was inconsistent and known to complicate things too much while dribbling. While on form he could single-handedly carve open defences but on a bad day he was a liability that would lose the ball constantly while trying to dribble past everyone. This inconsistency and mental weakness kept him from achieving greater things, despite his talent. He also suffered racial abuse on a regular basis, as non-white players were virtually non-existent in Scotland at the time. After losing his place at Celtic in 1977, Wilson fell out of love with football, his career slowed down and he retired in 1980 at the age of 30.
