INFO:Aziz is a former defensive or central midfielder, also capable as centre back. He spent his entire career at Al-Shorta from 1962 to 1979. He played as a goalkeeper in the last few minutes of a match won 5-2 against Al-Tijara due to the injury of Raad Hammoudi. He was named best player in Iraq four consecutive times from 1968 to 1971. He gained 73 caps for Iraq, scoring 6 goals. He took part to the 1972 and 1976 AFC Asian Cups. A major player also in the Iraqi army team, he won the 1972 and 1977 World Military Championships.
A pillar in Iraqi football during the 1960s and 1970s, Aziz was a influential key player since his debut with the national team in 1967. He scored a remarkable goal against France during the 1973 World Military Championship with a powerful volley from outside the box. In fact, despite being a defensive player, he was a dead ball specialist, renowned for his rocket shots, especially from free kick. A general in the midfield, he had a lot of energy. However, he also possessed good defensive abilities and for that reason he was sometimes used in the center of the defence and gained the nickname "Safety valve".
