INFO:Santarini is a former sweeper and centre back. He spent the majority of his career at Roma from 1968 to 1981, making 458 appearances and scoring 9 goals. He played also for Rimini, Inter and Catanzaro, where he retired in 1983. He capped twice for Italy.
One of key players of Roma during the 1970s and considered one of the best Italian sweepers at the time, Santarini was a defender of class, intelligence and commitment. He was slow but gifted with excellent sense of position and the ability to cover well the spaces. He also possessed great technique and could set up the offense, acting as a playmaker from the back ─ as a young player, he thought about becoming a playmaker. He was strong the air, characteristic that sometimes made him a threat in the opposing box mainly thanks to an impressive leap. Deserving of more chances to cap for Italy, they were denied by the competition.
