Holland is a former centre back. He spent his entire career at Floriana, making 348 appearances from 1971 to 1989, winning three Premier Leagues and three FA Trophys. He was called up for Malta 61 times, 42 consecutively and 44 as captain. He was voted Maltese Player of the Year in 1974-75 and 1977-78.
Holland was a good and strong defender, not too fast but capable of making remarkable sprints to anticipate his opponent. On the other hand, he was less effective at closing the space when the striker was further from him. He fought on every ball he could, showing a superb sliding tackle ability. Moreover, he was excellent in the air, intercepting most balls thanks to his height and jump, clearing the away with his good heading skills. He wasn't technically very gifted but sometimes delivered nice long and usually fast balls forward.
