INFO:Combative and skilful in front of goal, François Félix was one of the major centre-forwards of the 1970s. A great architect of the Bastia epic of 1978, Fanfan was one of the sure values of the Corsican club. He worked to undermine the opposing defensce. His warrior mentality was perfectly adapted to Bastia which became his second home.
A native of Viviers, in the Ardèche, François Félix was spotted by Olympique Lyonnais with his team nicknamed the "Beatles" in a youth tournament. Arrived in 1968, the ex-junior of Saint-Priest made his scales in the shadow of the little prince of Gerland, the immense Fleury Di Nallo. Very efficient, he won in the first team. With his angel face, he quickly earned the nickname Fanfan. While he is destined for a great career with the Rhone, the arrival of a young Bernard Lacombe will change everything.
In lack of playing time, Lyon agrees and Felix arrives at the SCB in 1971. This promising striker will become one of the main assets of the Bastia attack. The club's top scorer in 1972 with 14 goals, he did it again the following season with 17 goals. He then attracts the greed of Paris FC which will offer Sporting an offer that cannot be refused. The transition is too abrupt between the anonymity of the capital and the warm atmosphere of the small Corsican city. Shadow of himself in a team condemned to relegation, he did not convince despite 18 goals and left the club after only one season to join Nîmes. Again, not everything goes as planned. If the Crocos are having a good season by finishing 4th in the championship, Fanfan Félix is struggling to regain his level in Bastia, despite the presence of his former teammate Marc-Kanyan Case. With only 9 goals, he rushes his departure and returns to Bastia.
After a period of adaptation, he found his bearings and became the leader of the Corsican attack, participating perhaps in the finest hours in the history of the club at the head of Maure. Associated with left winger Jacques Zimako and Yugoslav legend Dragan Dzajic, he forms a formidable offensive trio. During the 1976-77 season, with 86 goals, the Corsicans finished much better attack, turning to three goals per game at home. Fine trigger of the French championship, the specialist in "diving heads" will never have the chance to wear the jersey of the Blues, undesirable in the eyes of the coach at the time Georges Boulogne. Too bad, the 1977-78 season will be that of the peak for Fanfan which will leave an indelible memory with the Turchini. His hat-trick at Furiani against Sporting Lisbon launched the islanders' UEFA Cup epic. It will also be him who will score the winning goal in the second leg against Salif Keita 's teammate, ex-glory of Saint-Etienne. This first match will be the trigger for one of the most beautiful European epics of a French club. Torino, Carl Zeiss Iéna and Newcastle UTD will fall to the Bastiais. But as twice in the Coupe de France, Fanfan Félix will still lose a new final, European this time, against the Dutch PSV Eindhoven.
In disagreement with his club, he joined Angers where he had the heavy task of making people forget Marc Berdoll, who had left two years earlier. At the SCO, he discovers the fight for maintenance, which he manages as best he can thanks to a few brilliant strokes such as a 3-0 victory at the Vélodrome, during which he scores a double. After two seasons in Maine, he was recruited by Guy Roux's freshly promoted AJ Auxerre who was looking for a centre forward. Unfortunately for him, he was injured very quickly due to a tackle from behind by Strasbourg's Remy Vogel and only played five games for AJA in total, with one small goal. After a last blank year, he hung up his crampons and joined the Auxerre staff. Still in love with Corsica, Fanfan and his family return to the Isle of Beauty after a last visit to Tonnerre, a small town in the Yonne. It was in Balagne that he trained the FAIR football team for seventeen years. And it is in this village that he continues to spend peaceful days, taking care of his garden, not far from his children and grandchildren, tirelessly admiring "his rock", that of Île Rousse.
