Symbol of AS Monaco in the 70s, Christian Dalger was a forward as whimsical as he was prolific. Endowed with a twirling technique, he is as effective as he is spectacular and forms a perfect pair, delivering many decisive crosses to the Argentinian Delio Onnis and his cold efficiency. Dalger cemented his place on the right wing of the attack or in the midfield playing behind the striker. If Petit is the engine of the team, Dalger is its transmission - very dangerous for his mobility, an immense talent and a simplicity. Regular free-kick taker for his team, Dalger could provide very effective crosses from any position.
He made his adult football debut in 1966 with Toulon, in which he spent six seasons, taking part in 131 matches of the second division of France. In November 1971, Dalger moved to the top league in Monaco, where at the end of that 1971/72 season, the club was relegated to the second division, but the following year it managed to return to the elite, and Christian Dalger scored sixteen goals in the second division. In 1973, Monaco bought Argentine Delio Onnis, and both players then formed one of the best attacks in the French championship. Around this time Dalger earned his first call to the French team by Ștefan Kovács, However, he did not come into play in this match between the "Blues" and Denmark. After a rather bad season, in the Coupe de France however ASM reached the final where they would lose to the winners of the championship, AS Saint-Étienne. After three seasons in Division 1, AS Monaco returned to Division 2. However, under the impetus of their new coach, Lucien Leduc and despite the descent into D2, Christian will remain faithful to ASM just like Onnis and there he will be one of the essential pawns of the Monegasque formation (seven goals in 31 games) who will manage to finish at the top of group A thus validating its return to D1 just a year after leaving it.
Thanks to Dalger/Onnis partnership, in the 1977/78 season Dalger scored 18 goals in the championship while delivering as many assists to Onnis, thus helping his team to surprisingly win the French championship. In 1980, the attacking duo helped the team win the French Cup, after which head coach Gerard Banide decided to rejuvenate the team, so Dalger and Onnis were forced to leave the "Monegasque". In total, Christian played for Monaco for eight and a half seasons of his playing career, scoring 89 goals in 335 games in all competitions .
His debut in Blue will take place during an unofficial match in March 1974 against Anderlecht, coming into play at half-time replacing Patrick Revelli (2-0 defeat). Four days later he will be established against Romania and will give way to P. Revelli in the 57th minute (1-0 victory). Then Christian will find the Blues at the start of the 77/78 season for an unofficial match against Hamburg (4-2 victory) replacing Eric Pécout during the game. Thereafter he will hold against the USSR in October 1977 then will be part of the France group which will play a decisive match for the qualification for the 1978 World Cup against Bulgaria the following month. During this crucial meeting he will enter in the 79th minute in place of Dominique Rocheteau when the Blues were already winning 2-0 and he will score the third tricolor goal by taking a cross from Bernard Lacombe from ten meters at the near post. So he will be selected to compete in the World Cup in Argentina and in a warm-up match he will score his second goal in Blue against Tunisia while making a decisive pass to Michel Platini. Then he will start in the first match of the world competition against Italy (2-1 defeat) and this will be his last appearance in the tricolor jersey, thus blocking his counter at six selections for two goals scored.
