Remember: there is only one person for you in the whole stadium - Müller. He has no right to score us. And you are personally responsible for this, Stepa". This is how Valery Vasilyevich Lobanovsky admonished Stefan Reshko before the match for the UEFA Super Cup against Bayern in Munich on September 9, 1975. It is fair to consider Reshko the first high-class front defender in Dynamo. Tough, but at the same time correct game for the front defender (only two yellow cards and not a single dismissal in his entire football career). He played hard, but within the rules, without rudeness. He never allowed himself to step on the opponent's foot or hit him from behind. Tight, high-quality tackle of the ball - tried to play ahead of the curve, turn around and not jump at the feet. They didn't call him Master of the penalty area for no reason... This is how Valery Lobanovsky described Stefan's game in his book “Endless Match”: “The prudence and thoroughness inherent in Reshko in life were easily transferred to them on the field. How many forwards bounced off him, as if from a wall after the most severe collisions, writhing in pain with distorted faces, and Reshko, who got no less than anyone, knew how to hide pain and tried to smile, which drove his opponents crazy. Silent by nature, a kind and fair person, Stefan meekly endured all the loads offered in training. When he was unbearable, sometimes, probably, he grumbled to himself, but endured. And with his patience he infected his partners. Therefore, I had every reason to read in their eyes respect for the ability to withstand the seemingly incredible." Lobanovsky and Bazilevich developed the tactics of playing in the center of defense even deeper. The "Dutch revolution" of the early 70s in football tactics assumed the universalization of players and the intensification of work on the field. Therefore, in addition to "playing in line", the game with the front and rear central defenders began to develop intensively. So, a wonderful pair of center backs played in Dynamo: “rear” and “front”. “Rear” or “libero” (Soviet commentators even came up with their own definition - “cleaner”) was Mikhail Fomenko, and Stefan Reshko acted in front of him “on the player”. His achievements in football are remarkable: 4-time champion of the USSR, 2-time winner of the Union Cup, winner of the UEFA Cup and Super Cup, bronze medalist of the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. |
