A midfielder of a combinational plan, with a good understanding of the game, distinguished by technical training and accurate and timely passing. Veremeyev was a master of well-adjusted passes at any distance, he knows how to organize an attack and perfectly execute it. Vladimir Veremeev is a virtuoso in handling the ball. But the main value of Veremeev was his excellent vision of the field, his dispatching skills, tireless creative activity. Despite the external fragility of the physique, the body of this outstanding midfielder was able to withstand heavy loads. Perhaps he did not belong to the ideal all-rounders, but he never shunned the performance of the functions of a neighbour on the field. Passes and corners performed by Veremeev were textbook, often they fascinated the fans, caused them true delight and at the same time confused opponents. He took his famous corner kicks with a “dry leaf”. He quickly and easily switched from defense to attack and vice versa, in the selection he played tough, but without rudeness. And the vision of the field, the ability to accurately deliver the ball to any distance, to any point in the field, helped him to painlessly retrain as a midfielder. And although he was not a pure flank player, Vladimir often started his active inclusions close to the edge. As per Valery Lobanovsky in his book “The Endless Match: “Veremeev has achieved an almost perfect mastery of improvisation in the conditions of a strict collective game, which noticeably distinguishes a very good football player from an average one” A native of the Far East, he learned the basics of football in the Kirovograd Zvezda, where the Kyiv breeders noticed the skilled 19-year-old striker. But it was not easy to break into the base of Maslov's team, which was experiencing a bust of great strikers. Only with the advent of Sevidov, who demanded a large amount of rough work from the field players, did the matured Veremeev be able to declare himself. As a part of Dynamo Kyiv, he was a 6x champion, 3x winner of the USSR Cup, winner of the Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Super Cup (1975). His performances also earned him several nominations for the title of Soviet Footballer of the Year, finishing second in 1974 and 1975 far behind his teammate Oleg Blokhin. He also joined the standard team of the Soviet championship four times in a row between 1974 and 1977. He was included in the list of the 33 best players in the country 10 times, 4 of them - under the first number! He played his last matches in Dynamo at the age of 34, and two years later he became the head of the team. Spoiler: show |
