Liked to go back to the middle for the ball. Parits was able to translate his lightness into speed. "My big advantage was that I couldn't be reached by the others." At that time he ran a hundred meters in 11.05 seconds and dribbled like a madman. Parits was considered the fastest right winger in Austria in his best years. During his time in Granada, his physical resemblance was to Johan Cruyff. Security, self-confidence and inner peace were the qualities that Thomas Parits had. He was also considered an absolute guarantor for converting penalties safely. His method was always different, so it was difficult for the goalkeepers to adapt to him. Parits always decided early on how he would execute the penalty kick and not just at the start. Either with the right inside of the foot or with the instep. Each penalty was designed and executed individually by him and mostly placed in a corner, only rarely in the middle of the goal. His streak in this regard was remarkable. With a few exceptions, every penalty was spot on. In 1978/79, for example, Parits finished second in the top scorer list with 22 goals, behind club-mate Walter Schachner (24 goals). In 1964, Parits got his first professional contract with FK Austria Vienna. Brought from Austria to 1. FC Köln by coach Ernst Ocwirk at the beginning of the 1970/71 season, he left the club just a year later for Eintracht Frankfurt. He played there until 1974 and played a total of 103 Bundesliga games in which he scored 23 goals. In his last year he won the German Cup with Eintracht. After his time in the German Bundesliga, he played for the Spanish club Granada CF, again for Austria Wien (1977–79) with whom he reached the CWC final and European Cup semi-final, and finally ended his active career with VOEST Linz. He was a part of the "Hunderjährigen Sturm" (100 years storm) together with Pirkner and Morales, Parits scored 100 goals in 258 competitive games for Austria Wien. For Austria, Parits made his debut on April 24, 1966 in a 0-1 friendly match against the Soviet Union, played in Vienna. In his career, he played in the Euro 68, the 1970 World Championship, the Euro 72 and the 1974 World Championship (all qualifiers). From 1966 to 1973, he played for the national team in 27 matches, scoring 5 goals. Spoiler: show |
