Recognized as one of the best French goalkeepers of the 1975-1976 season, André Rey, whom RC Strasbourg no longer wanted in 1974-1975, managed to revive his career at FC Metz, a club where he was able to demonstrate the full extent of his talent. Goalkeeper with real "miracle hands", with reflexes as quick as breathtaking, practically unbeatable on aerial balls, he obtained his first cap in the France A team, which sounded for him like a revenge on those who had buried him too early. He was called up to the France team for the first time at the age of 29. Michel Hidalgo, who was looking for a goalkeeper of size, launched him against the German world champions. Andre Rey should have been the starting goalkeeper of the France team at the 1978 World Cup in Argentina, unfortunately, an injury kept him out of the squad. Rey didn't have a big jump, but his positioning and calmness combined with size allowed him to cover the whole goal and look unbeatable. A complete goalkeeper with an impressive wingspan.
