Ntsoelengoe is a former attacking midfielder and secondary striker who could also play as centre-forward. He spent the majority of his career at Kaizer Chiefs, making 542 appearances and scoring 250 goals from 1971 to 1988. He's widely considered the greatest players in Kaizer Chiefs' history. He also had a remarkable time in the NASL, where he played during his local offseason, doing well especially with Minnesota Kicks from 1976 to 1981, scoring 50 goals in 155 matches. He also played for Miami Toros in 1973, Denver Dynamos in 1975, Toronto Blizzard from 1982 to 1984 and 1986 to 1988. He represented South Africa in one match against Rhodesia in 1977. He also played for South Africa XI in an astonishing 5-1 win over Argentina XI.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest players in South African football history, Ntsoelengoe was able to play in different positions, from playmaker to centre-forward. He possessed skill, vision, superb passing and scoring abilities, accuracy with the outside, confidence to do things that most players couldn't do. Although his position was midfielder, he scored more than most strikers. He also assisted 82 times during his years in the United States. He could dribble, shoot, attack and defend. He constantly pushed forward but he also supported his team in his own half. He mesmerized both opponents and supporters with the ability to turn the game with one single moment of brilliance, uncomparable to anyone who played alongside or against him. He was like an orchestra as he dictated the pace of the game like no one else. In addition, he was solid in the air. His teammate Kaizer Motaung compared Ace to Michel Platini and described him as a midfield general for his demeanour and the way he conducted himself in the field, being capable of changing mood, pace and whole complexion of a game whenever it got tense and hectic. Former South Africa coach Cliver Barker, instead, compared him to Zinédine Zidane.
