Hugo Broos was a long time Anderlecht defender, notably winning 3 European trophies with the club over his 13 years in purple. He was a solid defender with reliable positioning, good ball playing skills and decent pace, without being spectacular in any areas. He wasn't a very aggressive defender and preferred to take the ball cleanly with his good tackling abilities. He was very calm and laid back, although sometimes he seemed too casual. He had a very long career in Belgium, making his debut in 1970 and retiring in 1988 after a 5 year spell at Club Brugge. He also played at the 1986 World Cup near the end of his career where Belgium reached the semi finals.
